Summary:

To truly address the depth of people’s pain, particularly within church institutions, an alternate approach is needed. Relying on spiritual bypassing or spiritual jargon to mask real pain often prevents us from entering the ‘caves’ of people’s struggles. This can limit the church's ability to effect meaningful change that might break the cycle of revolving doors. Pastors are burning out and some are leaving ministry due to the draining nature of the ‘Messiah Complex.’ I invite ministers and caregivers to explore an approach that empowers people to actively participate in their own journey toward healing and recovery.
